Bio:

Ernest Strauhal 許志仁 (b. 2000, San Francisco) works in sound, video, and drawing. Drawing references from the environment, he incorporates landscapes, gesture, and chance in his works. He creates meditative visuals through automatic drawing to create a reprieve from overstimulation and information excess in the 21st century.

 

His drawn work is created through through an intense focus on meditation and the interplay between concentration and dissociation.  Small imperfections manifest themselves into meaningful parts of the composition through an acceptance of outside factors and acknowledgement of their significance in the work.

 

Strauhal’s works have been exhibited at Root Division Gallery (San Francisco), Links Hall (Chicago), soundpedro (Los Angeles), Mac Fine Arts (Emeryville), and UMA Gallery (Oakland).  Strauhal received his B.F.A. at the California College of Arts in San Francisco, California and is currently an M.F.A. candidate in Printmedia at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
